摘要

The article attempts to provide a contemporary summary of the complex role of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in genetic toxicology. There has been a number of recent reviews on the separate roles of intestinal mucosa and microflora in the bioactivation of genotoxicants. The close symbiotic relationship between the microflora and the host suggests, however, that it is preferable to consider the whole ecosystem of the GI tract when assessing the microflora's role in genetic toxicology.
