Coordinating Transportation in Your Community. National Eldercare Institute on Transportation Issue Brief No. 4

Since 1970, several studies have pointed out the central role transit plays in the quality of life of the elderly. For years, communities have had, in effect, two separate transportation systems: public and human services. However, these two systems have often operated without regard for each other, creating gaps and overlaps in service. Coordination is an excellent way to make the most out of limited community transportation services. The issue provides an overview of the different approaches, benefits and challenges to this concept.
