In the present work electrochemical (cyclic voltammetric) studies of methylviologen in THF + H2O at mercury electrode and TEMPOL in three different solvents (DMF, CH3CN and DMSO) at two different platinum electrodes have been carried out at 22.5 C. Heterogeneous electron transfer rate constants for the above two systems have been calculated by using Gileadi's method. Similarly electron spin resonance (ESR) studies have also been carried out in THF + H2O. Comparison of heterogeneous and homogeneous rate constants have also been carried out. The rate constants were calculated in terms of free energy of activation using Marcus formula.
