摘要

The study sought to develop multi-component smoking cessation/relapse prevention interventions suitable for use in health care settings that serve low income, minority women during the childbearing year and to determine the behavioral impact of the multi-component interventions on smoking cessation, relapse and reduction rates, both during and after pregnancy. The interventions were tested among 467 pregnant, current smokers who were receiving care from the Johns Hopkins Hospital outpatient clinics. 80% of patients in these clinics are African-American and 80% are low income women on medical assistance. Unlike similar studies, the project found no difference between the Intervention and Control groups' quit rates. The authors hope to explore the possible explanations in detail by conducting additional comparative data analysis in the future.
