SCANS Blueprint for Action: Building Community Coalitions

The publication is a compendium of examples of communities, schools, andbusinesses that are working together to implement the recommendations of the Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS). The commission researched the issue of work readiness and defined the know-how that high-performance schools must produce and that high-performance workplaces demand. There are several key features to the document: it provides over 100 examples of SCANS-related endeavors around the U.S., lists SCANS contact people in the Department of Labor's regional offices, and gives suggestions on how to build SCANS coalitions in communities. The document also provides details on the SCANS reports that came out before it. In addition, it provides a summary of the SCANS process, suggestions on how the average citizen can become involved, and a selection of resources to assist one in applying SCANS concepts.
