Work and Family Provisions in Major Collective Bargaining Agreements

The report contains examples of contract language dealing with work and familyprovisions such as child care, day care, elder care, maternity leave, parental leave, divorce, flexible work schedules, etc. from 452 collective bargaining agreements covering 1,000 workers or more. Contracts are from Bureau of Labor Statistics file of major collective bargaining agreements. Study examines the range of responses to work and family issues and provides samples of actual contract language. The clauses are not meant to be model provisions but rather demonstrate the diversity of approaches and contract language adopted by practitioners to address work and family issues. Specific contracts analyzed are listed in appendix.
