In-flight measurements of boundary layer velocity profiles have been obtainedusing a newly developed laser Doppler anemometer (LDA). This measurement system uses a laser diode as a light source and fiber optic probes for flexible positioning of the measurement volume. The system is novel in its low power consumption and robustness. Measurements have been performed at two air speeds. High data rates could be achieved in clouds, however velocity measurements were also shown to be possible outside of clouds.
