Discharge-Measurement System Using an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler withApplications to Large Rivers and Estuaries

The purpose of this report is to describe the development of a discharge-measurement system that uses a vessel-mounted acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) to measure river and estuarine discharges. The ADCP, when used with the discharge-measurement software, is referred to as the acoustic Doppler discharge-measurement system (ADDMS) in this report. This report describes the operation of an ADCP, the computer program (software) that calculates discharge from velocity data provided by the ADCP, field testing of the system, and several applications of the system.
