Descriptive Report on Cross-Border Travel Activity between the U.S., Canada, andMexico

This report is a descriptive work prepared as part of the TranNET West projectand presents an analysis of cross-border travel activity between the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The emphasis is on the travel of people as opposed to the movement of freight. Travel data and anecodotal travel information were collected from Canadian, U.S. and Mexican sources and analyzed to determine cross-border visitor flows. The study's time frame and insufficient Mexican data did not allow serious econometric modeling, but a limited projection for the year of 2000 was made for U.S.-Canada and Canada-U.S. travel. A table showing both the impact of travel on the U.S. economy and estimated foreign visitors from Canada and Mexico is included.
