Plank Diaphragms in Masonry Structures

The research undertaken for this project is part of the U.S.-Japan CoordinatedProgram for Masonry Building Research. Each category of the program is conducted under the supervision of the Technical Coordinating Committee for Masonry Research (TCCMAR). The TCCMAR committee was organized to function under the suspices of the Panel of Wind and Seismic Effects of the U.S.-Japan Cooperative Program in Natural Resources (UJNR). Study of floor diaphragms, which is the objective of this project, is the fifth research task of the TCCMAR coordinated program. Additional information on the organization of the Masonry Building Research Program is available in Reference 14. The objective of the overall TCCMAR research program is to elevate masonry structural analyses, design, and construction practice to a level comparable to structural steel and reinforced concrete technology.
