Evaluation of Drilling and Completion Costs in Various Tight Gas Sands. TopicalReport, January-December 1993

The purpose of the study was to identify and evaluate the major expendituresassociated with the development of tight gas reservoirs. The results of this work will be used to assist GRI in directing future research projects towards areas that have the most potential to reduce the costs of developing tight gas sands reserves. The authors have evaluated drilling and completion cost data for wells completed in the Cotton Valley sand in east Texas, the Frontier sand in Wyoming and the Wilcox sand in south Texas. Data were obtained on nearly 300 wells from operators in these areas. The information was classified according to specific cost categories and analyzed statistically to determine which items make up a majority of the development costs.
