MTEARBE Black Church Manual on Eldercare for At-Risk Black Elders in Pitt County, North Carolina

The manual is designed to help stimulate greater voluntary involvement of pastors and laity of churches with black members in Pitt County, North Carolina, in eldercare to at-risk black elders in their midst. It begins with a limited philosophical background to help support beliefs about the need for effective involvement. It then focuses on demographic traits of blacks over 55 years of age in North Carolina and in Pitt County. Information is provided about the Older Americans Act (OAA) and its provisions for programs and services to older adults. It concludes with information about some of the agencies in Pitt County that provide services to older adults and the types of services that they provide. Appendices include a list of black churches in Pitt County; guidelines for church-based voluntary development in eldercare; information about living wills in North Carolina; and a list of helpful references about black elders and eldercare.
