Archaeological Survey of Senator Wash, Imperial County, California. A Class IIICultural Resources Survey and Evaluation

Statistical Research, Inc. conducted a noncollection archaeological survey of2,085 acres in the area around Senator Wash Reservoir to inventory cultural resources, assess their significance, and determine the extent of disturbance to the resources by recent human activity. Eight previously unrecorded sites and six previously recorded sites were documented. Newly recorded sites included a lithic quarry, two rock rings, a cluster of 11 cleared circles, a rock cairn, a possible zoomorphic geoglyph, a historic house foundation, and the Senator Wash Dam. Previously recorded sites included an intaglio, a large habitation site, a ceremonial site, a rock ring, a rock ring and rock cluster, and a rock alignment. Human disturbance, in the form of recreational vehicle parks and vehicle tracks, is extensive within the project area and has contributed to the destruction of a number of previously recorded cultural resources. Most of the cultural resources recorded on this survey have not been significantly impacted to date.
