Uniaxial bianisotropic medium is a generalization of the well-studied bi-isotropic and chiral media. Special cases of uniaxial media with axial or transverse chirality were previously studied by these authors and they were seen to have interesting and practical polarization transformation properties and, moreover, to be more easily fabricable than truly isotropic (bi-isotropic) chiral media. The present problem considers plane-wave propagation in the most general uniaxial bianisotropic medium, with symmetric parameter dyadics. The dispersion equation for such a dyadic is solved together with the eigenpolarizations of the two eigenwaves. Numerical examples for the wavenumbers corresponding to the two eigenwaves of the medium are given. Application as a polarization transformer is discussed, a large number of medium parameters gives freedom in practical design.
