Fertilizer Use on Smallholder Farms in Eastern Province, Zambia

Use and diffusion of fertilizer have generally been disappointing in Africa, butin Eastern Province, Zambia, fertilizer has been the key to increased production. The study looks at how farmers make decisions on whether to use fertilizer, how much to apply, and on what crops. It also considers the role that fertilizer plays in the transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture.
