National Medical Expenditure Survey NMES3 HHS Feasibility Study. PreliminaryReport on the Outcomes of the Procedure for Obtaining Health Insurance Policy Documents from Respondents in the NMES-FS Household Feasibility Study

As part of the 1992-93 NMES Feasibility Study (NMES-FS), an attempt was made tocollect printed descriptions of health insurance plans (referred to in this report as policy documents) directly from household respondents. This is in contrast to NMES2 where policy documents were collected from the insurer, employer or union providing the insurance. An evaluation protocol was developed to assess the quality and completeness of the policy documents collected and to determine how well the policy documents could be matched to the correct household respondent. All policy documents were thoroughly reviewed against this protocol. The report provides preliminary data from this evaluation and a brief description of the procedures for obtaining and coding the health insurance policy documents. A comprehensive report containing further analyses and recommendations is scheduled for July 30, 1993.
