摘要

The workshop concerned marine invertebrate cell and tissue culture and was partof the World Congress on Cell and Tissue Culture cosponsored by the Tissue Culture Association and the Japanese Tissue Culture Association and held in Anaheim, California, during 16-20 June 1991. The workshop explored the possible reasons for the lack of success, despite vigorous attempts over a period of more than 50 years, to continuously grow lines of cells derived from tissues of marine and other invertebrate species. Long-term in vitro maintenance of tissues and primary cell cultures of some marine invertebrate species has been achieved--and used to good advantage. These marine invertebrate cells contain an extraordinary diversity of genetic information and possess other properties that can be used to good advantage for many basic and applied purposes.
