摘要

The report begins with a short presentation of the shape memory alloy phenomenon,including its history and terminology. After introductory comments the investigation of a NiTi wire is described. To study fatigue and changes in properties during thermomechanical loading, measurements of strain and cycles to failure were measured as a function of stress. This entailed construction of an experimental apparatus, which is described. Other properties, including transformation temperatures, electrical resistivity and microstructure were measured before and after fatigue testing to further investigate the influence of thermomechanical loads on a shape memory alloy.
