The American Petroleum Institute's (API's) Recommended Practice for the design and installation of offshore production platform piping systems includes design criteria aimed at preventing accelerated erosion/corrosion wear in two-phase gas/liquid flow lines. These criteria impose limits called the 'erosional velocity criteria,' on the nominal flow in the pipe as the means for avoiding flow conditions that will produce accelerated erosion/corrosion wear.
