Community Eldercare Coalitions or, How Your Community Can Help You if You'll LetIt: A Guide for Area Agencies on Aging

Designed to help Area Agencies on Aging develop Eldercare Coalitions in theircommunities, this manual grew out of a project funded by the Administration on Aging in 1991. Entitled 'The Oregon Fellowship for Eldercare Coalitions Program,' this project gave training in coalition building to selected faculty of Oregon's system of higher education. These faculty, most in non-metropolitan areas of the state, then worked with their local Area Agencies on Aging to facilitate an eldercare coalition. This manual represents not only the techniques of coalition building that were shared with these faculty, but also draws from the experiences of these endeavors. An evaluation of these projects, and several other coalition building activities carried out under the state-supported 'Project Care' grants, led to useful observations about what spells success in and what represents threats to community coalition building efforts.
