The objective for the project is to identify and evaluate the economicperformance and potential market application for a very small (5-kW) cogeneration package so that GRI can make a determination regarding a prototype package under development. The 5-kW unit may be perceived as too small by the high-end residential standby market. There also were economic applications identified in the small commercial market. Again the size of the market is limited because the 5-kW unit is well below the average load of most food service and small office applications. Laundromats and small apartment complexes also showed market potential. The combined market potential for the unit at an installed cost of $1,800/kW was estimated at 3,500 units per year. As system price increases, the potential market would degrade very rapidly.
