摘要

Research needs and research strategies for identifying and preventing lungdisease resulting from occupational fiber exposure were developed. The report established research priorities and described the various types of research on fibers, including asbestos (1332214). Research areas discussed included fiber characterization, fiber analysis, biological activity, mechanisms of disease, epidemiological investigations, and control methods. Research strategies discussed included the need for disease mechanism research, the role of epidemiological studies in assessing human risk, the role of in-vivo and in-vitro studies, integration of various studies, and research priorities.
