This resource brief outlines the need for better understanding about Social Security benefits among older Americans, provides background information about eligibility requirements and program benefits, and discusses suggested Social Security reforms designed to better serve older women. It suggests that the Aging Network conduct a national educational effort to inform older women--both current and future generations--about the importance of understanding Social Security benefits and incorporating this information into career decisions and retirement planning.
