Despite high and sustained rates of economic growth, approximately 420 millionpeople in Asia live in conditions of absolute poverty, suffer from nutritional deficiencies, and do not earn enough income to obtain even the basic necessities of life. Not surprisingly, massive poverty remains among the leading political and development concerns for most countries of the region.
