Automated Incident Management Plan Using Geographic Information SystemsTechnology for Traffic Management Centers

The study addresses the need to incorporate automated incident management in atraffic management center to respond to accidents, disabled vehicles, and other capacity-reducing incidents. The strategy examined to address this need involved developing an automated incident management plan, by customizing personal computer (PC) software and special programs, as a tool to assist operators in the decision making process. The objective of the study was to develop a database management system. To accomplish the objective, Geographical Information System (GIS) technology was customized for incident management.
