Comprehensive Assessment of Hazardous Materials Regulatory Compliance Requirements Facing Public Transportation Operations in California.

Transit operators are required to comply with applicable environmental regulations associated with the management, handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes. The direct applicability of each regulation depends on the activities the transit operator undertakes at its own facilities, and the activities it contracts out to third parties. The study characterizes hazardous materials environmental compliance issues facing transit operations, using both the results of a small sample of nine transit operations and of broader research on techniques and services available to meet the hazardous materials management needs of California transit operators.
