Investigation of the Influence of G-6-PD Deficiency on Certain Hemoglobinopathies in a Comprehensive Health Care Project for Children and Youth

Investigators screened 2,591 infants, children, and adolescents for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency and presence of hemoglobinopathies. No correlation between these conditions has been established; however, the testing was of use in detecting sickle cell anemia and possibly identified G-6-PD deficiency carriers.
