The manual is intended to increase students' understanding of police officers' legal mandates, the process of aging, and the aspects of domestic elder abuse that police are likely to encounter. The manual is designed to offer practical information that can be applied to daily encounters police have with elderly abuse victims (potential and actual), suspects, and witnesses. Police can assume a meaningful role in improving an elderly person's quality of life, while preventing, identifying, and properly responding to suspected cases of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
