Contribution of Tax and Expenditure Policies to Economic Growth in theNetherlands: An Empirical Analysis

The paper discusses the contribution of government policies and external factorsto the growth performance in the Netherlands in the past twenty-five years. In particular, it considers the effectiveness of government policy, the impact of external shocks and the changes that occurred in the course of time. Furthermore, it examines which part of the recovery in the eighties can be attributed to demand and supply factors. It focuses on some major variables, namely production, employment, capital accumulation and the share of labor income in output. The paper employs a small linearized macroeconomic model that has been estimated using annual data, for the period 1958-1989.
