Biacetyl-Azo Dye System: A Model System to Investigate Oxidative Dye Fading

摘要

Light fastness of a dyed substrate is an important feature for modern as well asancient materials. The industrial development of new colorants with better light-fastness properties is still based mostly on empirical considerations and not on photochemical theory. In the thesis the photochemistry of the oxidative fading of tautomeric azo dyes in the presence of a photosensitiser, the alpha-diketone biacetyl, is studied in aqueous aerobic systems in order to determine the chemical factors influencing light-fastness properties of these dyes on hydrophilic substrates.
