While exports in the first quarter rose over last year, stronger U.S. construction activity and tighter domestic supplies resulted in greater imports, and a $38 million trade deficit in solid wood products. Exports to the top three country markets of Japan, Canada, and Mexico, grew 38 percent, 15 percent, and 3 percent respectively during the first quarter 1993, compared to 1992. However the rest of the top ten markets declined.
