摘要

The program was conducted to determine natural gas constituent concentrationlimits necessary to insure that internal corrosion of copper tubing used in interior gas distribution systems does not constitute a safety hazard. Laboratory tests showed that the corrosion rate of copper in natural gas environments depends primarily upon the hydrogen sulfide (H2S), oxygen, and water concentrations of natural gases. It was found that corrosion products can form on copper tubing exposed to natural gases with H2S, oxygen, and water concentrations that are within specified limits, and that these products can flake off and may block downstream orifices. Filters and traps may be used to remove corrosion product flakes and minimize orifice blockages. Tin-lined copper tubing, which is more resistant to flaking, also may be used to minimize orifice blockages.
