摘要

The Bally Groundwater contamination is in Bally, Berks County, Pennsylvania, some 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Trichloroethene (TCE), 1,1,1-trichloroethane and 1,1-dichloroethene entered the local aquifer from careless and/or improper waste handling at the Bally Engineered Structures (BES) plant. These solvents have contaminated a zone of groundwater approximately 3,000 feet wide, 3,500 feet long and 300 feet deep. Groundwater data indicate that exposures to the above contaminants have occurred in the past which may result in adverse health effects. Hence, the site is considered to be a public health hazard. However, if groundwater from the municipal well(s) continues to be properly treated in accordance with the Record of Decision (ROD), future exposure from contaminated groundwater will be eliminated.
