Altimeter Data Processing from Sea Surface Topography to Horizontal Eddy Momentum Fluxes

Before the launch of the first radar altimeter satellites large parts of the ocean surface remained unexplored. The idea of remotely sensing the ocean surface was realized in 1973. Analyzing recordings of the ocean surface at different epochs resulted in information on specific tidal components, ocean currents and the geoid. In this thesis the time variability of the sea surface of the oceans between +60 degrees and -60 degrees will be investigated.
