Views of Area Opinion Leaders About Drug Abuse in the Washington, DC.Metropolitan Area: 1991

The study had two major objectives: to describe opinions and perceptions aboutdrug abuse among individuals representing a range of professions and areas of expertise in the District of Columbia Metropolitan Statistical Area (DC MSA) in 1991, and to develop a methodology for similar types of research among opinion leaders in other metropolitan areas of the country. Two general conclusions can be drawn. First, opinion leaders in the DC metropolitan area viewed drug abuse and related problems in their jurisdictions as serious. Second, the particular responsibility, substantive focus, and location of opinion leaders affect their views of the drug abuse problem and its solutions. These findings underscore the need for a coordinated and collaborative approach.
