Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Training Manual. Culture and Tradition:Los Ancianos Latinos

The information presented in this Training Manual is based on a Health Promotionand Disease Prevention Project for Latino elderly. The overall objectives were to: (1) Improve the mental and physical health of Latino elderly and their families by increasing their understanding of risk factors associated with a series of conditions that are prevalent among them; (2) Facilitate the elderly's access to community resources, specifically health, mental health and social services, and entitlement programs to include Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Food Stamps, Medicare and Medicaid; (3) Assist the Latino elderly in becoming aware of barriers to utilization of the above mentioned services and engage them in a change process through advocacy and coalition building activities.
