Cement-Bonded Straw Slabs; A Feasibility Study

Straw is the dry stalks of cereal plants, like rice, wheat, rye, barley and oats.The experiments described here were done with wheat straw, but straw from other grains, and possibly other grasses like savannah grass, may be used after testing. The aim of this report is: to review the use of straw as a building thermal insulation material; to describe a method to produce cement-bonded straw slabs with simple equipment; and to suggest how the slabs can be used.
