The overall objective of the program being performed is to acquire thefundamental knowledge necessary to design, synthesize, and evaluate low cost organic polymer and pre-ceramic coating systems that will provide corrosion protection to cold-rolled steel and aluminum substrates upon exposure to harsh condensing fluids. Attainment of these objectives will result in a comprehensive understanding of the principles governing the role of interphases and coating/metal interfaces, and how they affect the mechanical and physical properties of organic and inorganic polymers and their ability to bond to metallic substrates.
