Interoffice Trunking and Signaling

This bulletin is intended to provide REA borrowers and other interested partieswith technical information for use in the design and construction of REA borrowers' telephone systems. It discusses, in particular, the principles of operation of interoffice trunk circuits. It does not discuss the signaling between a Host office and an RST. For the purpose of this bulletin, an interoffice trunk is defined as 'the facility used to interconnect two switching centers for talking and signaling purposes.' This bulletin contains information on the most commonly used trunking and signaling technologies.
