The total Brazilian market for pollution control equipment amounted to approximately $250 million in 1992. The market should reach approximately $310 million in 1993. Trade analysts estimate an average annual growth rate of 7% for this market during the 1993-1995 period. Imports of pollution control equipment amounted to approximately $30 million in 1992, $6 million of which was supplied by U.S. manufacturers. Imports from the U.S. are estimated to grow 6% in the 1993-1995 period. The study assesses the pollution control instrumentation, specifically the gas infra-red analyzer used for motor vehicle emission control. American manufacturers supplied about 90% ($500,000) of imported equipment through 1992.
