Analyses of Some Benchmark Cases in Fracture Mechanics Using Boundary ElementMethod

The boundary element method and especially the analysis of fracture mechanicsproblems by using the dual boundary element program Cracker (Portela and Aliabadi 1992) is introduced. This code is especially suitable for studying crack growth in two-dimensional, linear, and elastic problems. Cracker can automatically model an incremental crack extension, and no user made remeshing is needed. Eleven different benchmark cases have been analyzed to verify the results given by Cracker. The stress intensity factors and the crack paths calculated by the program are similar to those given in the literature.
