Head-Up Displays for Automotive Applications

Head-up displays (HUDs) have been available for aircraft for quite some time andthey are now findings their way into automotive applications. This literature review is an attempt to organize and integrate the variety of work conducted on automotive HUDs from a human-factors standpoint. The review is divided into four major topics: human factors issues in HUD design, descriptions of available HUDs, popular perceptions of automotive HUDs, and human performance with automotive HUDs. These topics are covered in four separate sections, such that the reader may survey any one of these topics by reading the section pertaining to that topic in isolation.
