Verification of Severe Local Storms Forecasts Issued by the National SevereStorms Forecast Center: 1993

The SELS Unit of the National Severe Storms Forecast Center routinely issuesconvective outlooks and severe local storm watches to delineate areas that are favorable for development of severe local storms. During 1993 the SELS Unit issued 957 severe local storm watches. Of these, 350 were tornado watches. There were 13986 severe local storm events during 1993. Of these, 1173 were tornadoes. In terms of the total number of events, this was the most active season on record.
