摘要

An experimental study was executed to determine if vortex generators (circular cylinders) can be used to improve the heat transfer performance of a ribbed heat exchanger. Local and average heat transfer results, augmented by laser-Doppler flow data and hot-wire velocity spectra, were obtained for vortex generators located directly above or immediately downstream of selected rib elements. The rationale behind the investigation was that the vortex-generator-induced disturbances would subharmonically excite the sheat-layer instabilities behind the ribs.
