Project Summary: Evaluation of a Comprehensive Hospital Information System

摘要

This report describes the relationship between comprehensive hospital informationsystems and hospital performances. The study examined a system that was installed at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California some 20 years ago. A unique feature of the system was that it was specifically designed to encourage physician data entry. It was one of the first attempts to capture clinical data at the source. The differences between the systems at this and other hospitals are documented in the report. Another issue addressed is the acceptance and sustainability of this type of system. The significance of this research is that a system that is central to hospital functions and also encompasses the activities of the physician represents the technological and organizational underpinnings leading to the integrated data structures that will be needed in the near future.
