Roadway Stabilization Using Air Convection Embankments

This report presents the results of a preliminary investigation into a newtechnique for protecting roadway embankments from failure due to permafrost degradation. This technique involves the use of a highly-porous embankment material which promotes natural convection within the embankment during winter months. This convection effectively removes heat from the embankment and thaw-unstable foundation materials during the winter.
