Variability of Surface-Air Temperature and Precipitation at Miami InternationalAirport Including Relationships with Tropical Weather System Activity and El Nino: 1941-1990

The Miami International Airport (MIA) surface-air temperature and precipitationdata for the period 1941-1990 were examined to determine EL Nino's impact on the MIA climate. In this sample, El Nino years and the years just prior to El Nino years are relatively warm, and the years that follow El Nino years are relatively cool. The MIA winter months in El Nino years tend to be relatively rainy in comparison to those of non El Nino years. The winter and spring of years preceding El Nino years tend to be relatively dry.
