Reasonable Charge Impact Studies: Update of Descriptive Tables Developed in the'Analysis of Customary Charge Distributions'

The study consisted of three major projects. The first included updating andenhancing the descriptive tables which contained data for 1988. The updated tables include data for each of the years 1987-1991. The second major project was a study using Indiana data to evaluate pre-Medicare Fee Schedule trends in physician caseloads and utilization. Data for the first six months of 1988, 1989, and 1990 were utilized. The third major project was a study to estimate the redistribution impacts which resulted from over 53,000 active physicians who had a recorded change of speciality in at least one of their practice settings in 1992. The vast majority of these changes resulted from the opportunity the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) gave to physicians to redesignate their specialty during that year.
