Studies on the Flow Induced by an Oscillating Airfoil in a Uniform Stream

The thesis is organized into six chapters. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the problem of oscillating airfoils. In chapter 2 a review of the classical unsteady airfoil theory is given. A survey of viscous flow structure is presented in chapter 3. Experimental studies are described in chapter 4. The experimental study consists of two parts, namely, experimental measurements and numerical calculations based on a panel method which is discussed in detail in chapter 5. Conclusions are summarized in chapter 6.
