A description is given of an electronic dialog between the Experimental FlightManagement System (EFMS) and a future ATC enter. As an example, an analysis is presented of a trajectory negotiation over a Mode-S datalink. Including estimated response times from pilot and controller, the conclusion is that it could take between 3 and 7 minutes to complete the negotiation. Some measures to improve on this are given.
